    Dewberry’s Alex Harwell Promoted to Associate

    FAIRFAX, Va. – Alex Harwell has been promoted to associate at Dewberry’s Raleigh, North Carolina, office.

    Harwell has been with the firm for more than four years and has worked in the industry for nearly 20 with a concentration on healthcare, manufacturing and industrial plant facilities in utility systems design, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance. His building and utility systems expertise includes heating, ventilation and air

    conditioning; compressed air and vacuum; refrigeration; electrical generation and distribution; nuclear and steam power plants; hydraulics; pneumatics; medical gases and electronic and mechanical automation and controls.

    Today, Harwell is working as a project manager on numerous healthcare-related contracts, including Novant Health facility’s condition assessments and the retrofitting of operating room de-humidification systems. Additional projects include essential electrical system replacements, laboratory renovations, smoke control studies, building cooling studies and temperature humidity controls. Early in his career, he served as a nuclear machinist mate for the U.S. Navy for 10 years.

    Harwell earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Old Dominion University and is a member of the North Carolina Healthcare Engineers Association and the American Society of Highway Engineers. Prior to joining Dewberry, he spent four years with the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation as an engineering reviewer/inspector for primarily healthcare and wellness facilities.
