MILWAUKEE, Wis. – HGA Architects and Engineers has won a Merit Award for ThedaCare Regional Cancer Center in the AIA Wisconsin 2017 Design Awards program.
The award jurors praised the cancer center for its integrated design solutions combining landscaping, inviting architectural forms, sustainable materials and high-tech clinical spaces.
Connected to an existing ambulatory care center on a 53-acre landscaped campus outside Appleton, Wisconsin, the 84,000-square-foot cancer center includes comprehensive diagnostic, treatment and infusion services, as well as behavioral health, nutrition, physical therapy, acupuncture, yoga and music therapy. Exterior stonework, wood panels and warm earth tones carry into the interior, where large windows, abundant natural light, access to nature, comfortable waiting areas and clear signage create an approachable and soothing setting for patients.
The cancer center was among seven projects honored for architectural excellence. The 2017 Design Awards jury included Margaret Cavenagh, AIA; Reed Kroloff and Carey Nagle, AIA.
Spiering will feature ThedaCare Regional Cancer Center in a seminar, Planning Holistic Cancer Centers that Embrace Mind, Body, Spirit, at Healthcare Facilities Symposium and Expo, Sept. 20.
