WASHINGTON, D.C. – Mitchell Collin and Gregory Stackel, associate vice presidents and project managers at CallisonRTKL, will be presenting at the Healthcare Facilities Symposium & Expo  Sept. 19-21. They will be joined by Geoffrey Morgan, vice president for expanded access at Washington Adventist Hospital and Michael Sheerin, chairman/CEO and project mechanical engineer at TLC Engineering for Architecture. The event draws attendees from stakeholders at design firms to healthcare providers to engineers and construction professionals to focus on the intersection of design and wellness.

They will present at 3-4 p.m. on Sept. 20. The design team will provide an overview of the Washington Adventist Hospital project. The hospital has been open for 109 years and is seeking to construct a new facility to replace its aging hospital. As the planning for the new facility was occurring, the healthcare law went into effect, forcing the hospital to reconsider many aspects of the design and to re-strategize priorities for the new project. Geoffrey Morgan will discuss the reasons for replacement and how the arrival of the healthcare law impacted the organizational strategy of the project development. The design team will report on the current project status and discuss specific design impacts that are being implemented and those still being considered.

The symposium features faculty who will cover a range of topics including Lean processes, disaster response, reducing operational costs, energy strategies, generative space and integrated project delivery and many more. A complete list of speakers can be found at http://www.hcarefacilities.com/speakers.asp.
