NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. has promoted Patrick Peterson to senior vice president of healthcare services for the firm’s Southern California Division. The change takes place as Michael Gritters, who previously led the healthcare group for the division, steps into a new role as the executive sponsor of a key project in El Paso, Texas, while continuing to serve as executive vice president.

Apr16_MCDeNews_People_Patrick PetersonA 25-year veteran of the construction industry, Peterson has made significant contributions to some of McCarthy’s most successful projects in Southern California. Peterson’s numerous achievements include overseeing the $322.8-million Torrance Memorial Medical Center Lundquist Tower in Torrance, and the $235.6-million St. Jude Medical Center Northwest Tower and Central Plant Design-Build project in Fullerton, which was ultimately completed five months ahead of schedule and more than 10 percent below the original budget. Peterson is a LEED Green Associate who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Engineering Management from Arizona State University.

In his new role, Peterson will be responsible for the successful operations of all healthcare projects delivered from McCarthy’s Newport Beach office. In addition, Peterson will provide leadership to the company’s project executives and implement strategic approaches to new opportunities for McCarthy clients.

While Gritters will continue to serve as executive vice president, he will also oversee a $649-million project at Ft. Bliss Army Replacement Hospital in El Paso, Texas. Gritters’ more than 35 years of experience working on crucial projects will be invaluable as the team balances a multitude of key priorities for the project, which will consist of a seven-story hospital, two clinical buildings, administrative building, clinical investigation building with biosafety level, three laboratories and central utility plant. Gritters will begin his new responsibilities in Texas immediately where he will provide full-time leadership, guidance and oversight to the entire project team.
