CHICAGO, Ill. – CallisonRTKL has partnered with Health Quest’s Vassar Brothers Medical Center to design its new facility in Poughkeepsie, New York.
The new seven-level, $466-million inpatient pavilion will be 696,000 square feet and include a hospital lobby, emergency department with 66 treatment rooms, inpatient imaging services, operating suite, central sterile supply, 30 bed critical care unit, 264 private medical/surgical beds, rooftop helipad, loading dock, conference center, café and central plant expansion.
CallisonRTKL designed the pavilion as a curved shape building to mimic the flow and aesthetics of the Hudson River and included a large expanse of glass on the west side to maximize views from patient rooms. In order to create a clarity of flows for ambulances, patients and guests, the pavilion is separated into four distinct zones – inpatient, outpatient, service and emergency – each having their own destination and entry point.
The new facility will be the first registered healthcare project in the state of New York for the new LEED for Healthcare Version 4 and second in the U.S.
In partnership with CallisonRTKL, BR+A serves as MEP engineers, Graef as structural engineers, the Chazen Companies as civil engineers and Dirtworks as landscape architects. Construction will begin in May 2016 and is slated for completion in January 2019.
