    GS&P Names New Healthcare Project Manager/Senior Architect

    CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Julie Mullen, AIA, ACHA, LEED AP, has joined Gresham, Smith and Partners as a project manager and senior architect in the firm’s Healthcare market. July_MCDeNews_People_Julie MullenMullen brings more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare design field, having worked with executive steering committees and hospital personnel as a medical planner and having led numerous projects from the programming and planning stages through delivery. Mullen will be based in Charlotte, enhancing GS&P’s firmwide healthcare resources with a focus on growing client services in North Carolina.

    Before joining GS&P, Mullen was a senior leader for eight years at Perkins+Will in Charlotte. During that time, she led a $200-million expansion and renovation project from inception through construction at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina. The project included a new 72-bed emergency department, central sterilization services, a 16-position operating room suite, a 54-position peri-operative suite and a 96-bed patient tower. She has also worked on major medical facility projects for Holston Medical Group in Kingsport, Tennessee and Gwinnett Medical Center in Duluth, Georgia. Additionally, Mullen has held leadership positions with Wright McGraw Beyer Architects in Charlotte and IKM Inc. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

    Mullen earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture and a Master of Architecture degree, both from the University of Maryland. She is a licensed architect in North Carolina and Ohio. She is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Architects, certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and involved with the North Carolina Healthcare Engineers Association. Outside of the office, Mullen volunteers her time with the annual “We Care” holiday event in Charlotte sponsored by Herman Miller. She is also involved with the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce and has participated in and raised money for AVON 39 – The Walk to End Breast Cancer.
