PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Children’s South, the newest ambulatory care center for Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, has been designated a LEED-certified location by the U.S. Green Building Council in recognition of the building’s energy-saving features and green construction.
Children’s South, located on 2.6 acres in South Fayette, opened in September 2014 and includes more than 60,000 square feet of usable space. The location houses pediatric outpatient services, primary care and after-hours care in one highly visible, child- and family friendly, easily accessible building.
The project team, IKM Incorporated, was tasked with designing an extremely healthy and environmentally responsible facility, consistent with Children’s mission. These strategies included credits for site development that maximize open space and manage stormwater quality, reducing building energy usage and implementing UPMC’s recycling and non-smoking policies at the building.
