    Thomas Gunn Hired as Senior Healthcare Planner at Ghafari

    DEARBORN, Mich. — Thomas Gunn, AIA, has joined Ghafari Associates as a senior healthcare planner. Gunn brings nearly 40 years of architecture, planning and project management experience to the firm.

    May_MCDeNews_People_GunnGunn specializes in the planning, design and development of innovative and cost-effective healthcare facilities. He led the planning and design of the $125-million Detroit Receiving Hospital and Wayne State University Health Center  in Detroit, Michigan, in addition to assembling the planning team and jointly developing the Detroit Medical Center master plan. He also led the expansion and reconfiguration of the emergency department level-one trauma center at Detroit Receiving Hospital.

    In addition, Gunn’s portfolio includes the major relocation and redevelopment of Hutzel Women’s Hospital in the DMC’s Central Campus and the planning and design of many other hospitals.

    Gunn studied advanced healthcare planning, information technology, psychology and statistics in the doctoral program at the University of Michigan. He also studied engineering, holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Manitoba and is a licensed architect in the state of Michigan.
