PHOENIX, Ariz. — Craig Passey, AIA, has been promoted to leader of SmithGroupJJR’s Health Studio at its Phoenix, Arizona office. He succeeds Mark Patterson, who recently was elevated to become the firm’s international Health Practice leader.

SmithGroupJJR_PasseyPassey has over 20 years of experience in architectural planning and design and is recognized for his expertise in ambulatory care and acute care facilities. In his new role, he will oversee the growing studio and its project delivery and business development efforts throughout the Intermountain region, while continuing to engage with local clients such as Banner Health and Mountain Park Health Center.

Passey joined SmithGroupJJR in 2005 as a senior project manager, bringing a strong background in the planning and design of healthcare facilities.

Among Passey’s most noteworthy projects are VA Outpatient Clinics in McAllen and Harlingen, Texas; Banner Ironwood Medical Center, San Tan Valley, Arizona, a $128-million greenfield hospital; the master plan for the University of Las Vegas Shadow Lane Campus, a proposed 18-acre, shared health sciences campus and the recently completed patient tower expansion and renovations to Banner Estrella Medical Center, located in Phoenix.

Passey received a Bachelor of Science in Design from Arizona State University and is an active member of American Institute of Architects’ Arizona chapter.
