MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The healthcare team from Kahler Slater received a 2013 ASID Wisconsin Design Excellence Award for its work on the renovation of the Holy Redeemer HealthCare at Bensalem ambulatory care facility in Bensalem, Pa.

The project was honored with a Bronze Award in the Healthcare/Medical category. Presented by the Wisconsin chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers, the awards recognize outstanding interior design in such categories as corporate/office space, healthcare, retail and hospitality.

The 20,000-square-feet health center supports the Holy Redeemer Health System’s goal of creating unique, world-class healthcare experiences for patients, families, physicians and employees in an outpatient setting. The facility is innovative in its organizational layout, with an extensive use of curves, the incorporation of storytelling and interior spaces that flow seamlessly between practice areas to give patients and families opportunities to experience many amenities and positive features to make their experience more enjoyable. Wood, glass tile, metal sculptures and custom-blown and cut glass create a play of light, color and texture throughout the facility and reinforce the connection with nature. “Off-stage” caregiver and staff spaces are separated from “on-stage” public areas to create a welcoming environment, facilitate caregiver collaboration and help ensure patient privacy.

ASID Wisconsin Design Award winners were chosen by a jury of ASID members from outside of Wisconsin. Projects were evaluated on the appropriateness of the design solution; functional use of space; innovative and creative use of space, scale and proportion; color composition; design elements and commitment to sustainability.
