KLMK Group, Inc., now CBRE Healthcare, and Slidell Memorial Hospital announce the grand opening of the new emergency department and SMH Heart Center expansion in Slidell, La.

SMH Heart Center Lobby reduced_ROn May 15, 2012, Slidell Memorial Hospital broke ground on the $26-million project. The first floor of the expansion holds the 35,000-square-foot emergency department with a capacity of 31 patients, imaging and  new mechanical space. The second floor holds the 30,000-square-foot heart center with 38 beds.

The new emergency department and heart center are integral parts of SMH’s patient-focused facility, allowing for shorter wait times, faster assessments, quicker discharges and more inpatient private beds. The new facility will also allow SMH to prepare for future community growth while staying innovative, adding new technologies, equipment and physicians.

“Delivery of this expansion project to the community is a significant accomplishment for all parties involved,” stated Bruce W. Clement, FACHE, SMH chief operating officer. “We are excited to bring the most innovative, patient-centered, technologically advanced care platform in the region to our community. Our mission ‘To improve the quality of life in our community’ will be advanced with this new ED and heart center project online.”

The legacy KLMK served as the owner’s representative and provided project advisory solutions throughout the duration of the project. Services included project implementation plan, master budget/schedule development and management, contract development and negotiations and construction planning and management.

Slidell Memorial Hospital held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Oct. 28 and the facility opened for patient care on Oct. 29.
