Jesse McCarter, AIA, has joined HDR Architecture’s Princeton, N.J. office as healthcare principal. He will be primarily responsible for managing and leading healthcare projects, as well as working with Chris Bormann, East Region director of healthcare at HDR Architecture, with business development and marketing efforts in the region.
From his very first healthcare project—a simple operating room expansion—McCarter has been inspired by healthcare design, both its challenging complexity and its ability to improve lives. He is a hands-on, proactive leader and project manager. McCarter likes to remain closely involved throughout the design process. His projects range from small department modernizations to $1-billion replacement hospitals, and he has worked for a diverse clientele, including community hospitals, urban healthcare systems and academic medical centers.
From his experience in many roles in healthcare architecture, from medical planning and technical coordination to project management, McCarter has developed a solutions-based approach to smart project delivery. He has the ability to see both the big picture and the details, with a gift for taking complex processes and distilling them into incremental, achievable steps. His skills are invaluable to healthcare clients where the design processes can be incredibly complex.
McCarter received his Bachelor of Architecture from Philadelphia University, and has worked in the industry for 15 years, including time at other healthcare firms such as at Ellerbe Becket, Perkins Eastman and, most recently, HOK.
