CONSTRUCT 2013 Heads to Nashville

CONSTRUCT will bring specifiers, architects, engineers and other design/construction professionals to Music City in Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 24 to 27.

Presented by Hanley Wood and sponsored by CSI, CONSTRUCT is the only dedicated national event specifically designed to provide the commercial building team with real world, practical product and education solutions. The conference and exhibition offers a relevant, accredited education program, an expansive show floor filled with the latest services, products and technologies, as well as myriad networking opportunities. There are also technical tours, activities and special events.

This year’s host city, Nashville, is most notably known as a mecca for music. In addition to its song-centered attractions, the city offers various tourist activities with family friendly entertainment, delicious Southern cuisine, sports and shopping. CONSTRUCT will be held in the brand-new Music City Center, which had its grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony in mid May.

The event kicks off with a high-energy and thought-provoking general session with keynote speaker Ira Blumenthal, president of Co-Opportunities Inc. His Atlanta-based company has counseled world-class clients in areas related to branding, strategic alliances, change management, reinvention, customer service and business development. Blumenthal’s talk, “Change is Inevitable: Building Your Brand for the Future,” will include philosophies, strategies, guiding principles and best practices used to create, build, maintain and manage brand success. He will identify ways to embrace change and capitalize on brand building.

Education is a key component of what CONSTRUCT has to offer attendees. The curriculum is carefully planned by industry leaders for industry professionals. There are 58 educational sessions scheduled, with opportunities for American Institute of Architects Continuing Education System Learning Units and Health, Safety and Welfare. Additionally, this year CONSTRUCT is offering Green Building Council Institute credits for applicable sessions. As an added bonus, all sessions take place when the show floor is closed to maximize attendees’ experiences.

In addition to the conference, the expo hall will feature hundreds of exhibitors, live demos and the Learning Pavilion. Product manufacturers and service providers offer the latest in practical product solutions to assist the project team in building smarter and more efficiently for timely, on-budget results.

The live demo area will feature hands-on learning demonstrations explaining, among other lessons, the factors ensuring quality, how to specify consistently colored mortar and the key steps for installing units, as taught by skilled masons. The Learning Pavilion offers quick-paced, 60-minute courses on the show floor led by exhibiting building product manufacturers. Free for all attendees, these educational tools are designed to bring design/construction professionals up-to-date on the latest technologies and products hitting the market.

A technical tour of the Tennessee Concrete Association is being offered at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24 .  TCA has some beautiful decorative concrete designs on display.  Be amazed with the fences, walls, benches, tables, patios and slabs depicting the state of Tennessee and TCA logo.  A walk around the TCA campus will highlight the beauty concrete is capable of providing.  Discussions will include design and specifying tips.  Attendees will also view a variety of pervious concrete slabs, discuss testing methods and explore a typical setup of equipment used to pour pervious pavement.

The Net-Zero Building Project is another feature of the TCA campus.  This research project is designed to showcase net-zero energy consumption by using the thermal mass of concrete, thermal tempering of the fresh air supply and natural convection to provide indoor comfort without an HVAC system. It incorporates a small PV solar system to produce its own energy and showcases resilient design principles and healthy finishes.
