PRMCRendingDALLAS, Texas – McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., recently broke ground on a new hospital and completed construction on another healthcare facility. The builder has teamed with Trinity Hughes Construction, Bundy, Young, Sims & Potter, Inc. and HKS Architects on the Permian Regional Medical Center which held a ceremonial ground breaking in Andrews, Texas on Nov. 20, 2012. In addition, McCarthy completed the Midland Memorial Hospital tower construction on Dec. 19, 2012 in Midland, Texas.

The $55-million PRMC replacement hospital project will be a 34-bed, full-service, acute care hospital with wellness center and physician clinic/offices. The 200,000-square-foot facility will replace the existing hospital and tie into PRMC’s skilled nursing unit. The project is scheduled to be constructed in multiple phases and complete in 2016.

“McCarthy’s experience with rural healthcare, our technology and, most importantly our team, were the differentiators that led to selection in both of these projects,” said McCarthy Texas Region President Mike McWay. “Both hospitals will benefit the community immensely and we are thrilled to be a part of the process. We are proud of the end result at Midland Memorial and we plan to bring the same skill and execution to PRMC.”

The Midland Memorial Hospital expansion and renovation project opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by members of the Midland Chamber of Commerce, hospital representatives and local Midlandresidents. It re-opened at 6 a.m. on Dec. 19 with full functionality and, to top it off, the staff enthusiastically delivered the first baby in the newly expanded facility shortly after, at 7:10 a.m.

Midland’s expanded $120-million hospital includes a new 240,000-square-foot, nine-story tower, as well as renovations to the existing 100,000-square-foot hospital, upgrades to the central plant and a new five-level parking garage. The newly expanded hospital tower houses dietary, emergency medicine and labor and delivery departments, as well as a data center and patient rooms.  The renovation of the existing 100,000-square-foot hospital consists of an expanded emergency department, CT scan rooms, patient rooms, a new pharmacy and a new cafeteria.  The new construction replaced existing patient rooms with 194 new patient beds.

In addition to the Midland Memorial Hospital expansion and renovation, and the Permian Regional Medical Center replacement hospital project, McCarthy’s roster of healthcare projects includes work for The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, United Regional Health Care System in Wichita Falls, Texas and Carillion Senior LifeCare™ Community in Lubbock, Texas. The Balfour Beatty | McCarthy joint venture team also is underway on the $534-million hospital replacement project for the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, Texas.
