The Providence Hospitals’ Board of Trustees has awarded KBR Building Group a contract as the construction manager for a major renovation and expansion at Providence Hospital Northeast in Columbia, S.C.

KBR Building Group’s scope of work includes significant renovations and new construction to the main hospital building. New construction will include an added MRI service, a new main entrance and canopy, along with an expansion of the front lobby, post-anesthesia care unit and a central sterile processing area.

Areas to be renovated include the energy plant, emergency, pre-op/recovery, surgery, central sterile and admissions departments and patient care areas. Overall, the project will expand the facility by adding 38 new beds.

“Providence Hospitals selected KBR Building Group based on our solid credentials and proven experience in the healthcare market, along with our outstanding safety record and long-time presence in the Carolinas,” said Philip Southerland, president, KBR Building Group. “The hospital’s senior leadership knows that KBR Building Group is committed to including local and diverse suppliers as part of our subcontracting plan. Our South Carolina regional office in Greenville — established more than 40 years ago — is just 90 minutes from the project site, as is our Charlotte location.”

KBR is a global engineering, construction and services company supporting the energy, hydrocarbon, government services, minerals, civil infrastructure, power, industrial, and commercial markets. For more information, visit www.kbr.com.
