Swinerton Celebrates Design-Build Construction Milestone with San Joaquin Community Hospital

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Swinerton Builders, project partners and the community recently celebrated a topping out ceremony for San Joaquin Community Hospital Cancer Center. The highlight of the festivities was the hoisting of the final beam into place, bringing this much-anticipated facility a step closer to completion.

This 62,000-square-foot, four-story building is designed by BFGC-IBI Group Architects. Housing public areas and two floors for oncology diagnosis and treatment, the facility will also include: three linear accelerators, a diagnostic/procedural imaging suite, patient registration areas, a laboratory, ambulatory surgery center with four operating rooms, pre-op and post-op areas, waiting rooms and a general practitioner family practice suite. MD Anderson Cancer Center will provide the programming of the oncology diagnosis and treatment areas.

The new building is being designed and constructed to OSHPD Level 3 standards and will be seeking LEED for Healthcare certification from the USGBC once completed in December 2012.
