ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — St. Anthony’s Hospital is improving patient care for the St. Petersburg, Fla. community with the recent opening of a new emergency center and patient bed tower addition. The new addition allows the hospital to treat more patients in an efficient manner and gives residents more patient privacy when receiving care.
The addition was built with family centered care and patient privacy in mind. The new 105,000-square-foot emergency center and patient care tower features 32 private patient examination rooms on the first floor of the emergency center and 64 private inpatient rooms on the second and third floors of the patient bed tower.
“We are always asking ourselves what we can do next and how can we best provide superior healthcare to our community,” said William Ulbricht, president, St. Anthony’s Hospital. “Our new emergency center and patient care tower is our most recent answer to that question. We believe this new addition to our services will help us offer advancements in patient care, along with features to enhance patient privacy.”
Designed by Flad Architects, built by Brasfield & Gorrie and managed by WRD Construction Consultants, the emergency center features a “racetrack” design. Patients and family access the rooms from the lobby side, while nurses and doctors access the rooms from an inner core. Family members don’t have to walk through the clinical care area to get to patients’ rooms.
“We think that will allow greater confidentiality and privacy,” Ronald Colaguori said, St. Anthony’s vice president of operations.
In addition to almost doubling the number of rooms available in the department, the new emergency center offers:
• Two critical care exam rooms
• Spacious waiting room with comfortable seating and wireless connectivity
• Meditation chapel for solace and reflection
• Advanced CT scanner, as well as imaging and lab facilities within the emergency center to help expedite diagnosis and treatment.
