ZANESVILLE, Ohio –Genesis HealthCare System has selected the architect, SmithGroup JJR/Trinity, and construction manager, Turner Construction Company, for the $125-million new medical center project announced last year.

SmithGroup JJR/Trinity is a partnership recognized for creating highly efficient, patient-centric hospitals. Notable healthcare projects include Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center, Johns Hopkins Health System/Holy Cross Hospital and St. Jude Children’s Research Hosnew_Genesis_med_centerpital. Brian Addis, a Zanesville. Pjop-based architect with healthcare experience, will be assisting.

Turner Construction Company has four offices in Ohio and is working on The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center expansion, as well as the new Nationwide Children’s Hospital patient tower. Other central Ohio healthcare projects Turner built include the McConnell Heart Center at Riverside Methodist Hospital, the Mount Carmel East Hospital expansion and renovation and the Licking Memorial Hospital Critical Care Pavilion.

“We had premier companies throughout the United States interested in working with us on our new medical center project,” said Matthew Perry, president and CEO of Genesis. “Our main goal is to design the new facility to enable us to provide an exceptional patient experience – the highest clinical quality of care with the highest patient satisfaction. The firms we selected will help us achieve that goal. We are also committed to using local businesses and competitive construction vendors whenever possible.”

The new medical center will be built on the grounds of Bethesda Hospital in Zanesville. The design process will be complete in late 2012, and construction will begin shortly thereafter. The new medical center is scheduled to open in early 2015.

The project will include construction of a patient tower attached to a renovated Bethesda Hospital to create a single, expanded medical center. The facility will bring together services currently offered at Genesis’ two hospital locations – Bethesda and Good Samaritan – and will include all private patient rooms.
