Nemours, South Jersey Healthcare Announce Partnership

VINELAND, N.J. — Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children recently announced its partnership with South Jersey Healthcare to expand access to high-quality pediatric specialty care throughout South Jersey. As part of this new relationship, Nemours Pediatric Partners at South Jersey Healthcare (SJH) will provide around-the-clock neonatal, pediatric, and emergency care for children at SJH Regional Medical Center requiring specialized care.

Access to Nemours physicians and advanced, child-friendly outpatient specialty care will continue to be made available at Nemours Children’s Clinics in Voorhees, N.J.; Egg Harbor Township, N.J.; Philadelphia, Pa. and Wilmington, Del. In addition, Nemours Children’s Clinic offers outpatient cardiology clinic sessions in Vineland, NJ. This partnership is supported by Nemours’ use of a fully integrated electronic health record (EHR) system that enables access to patient data, regardless of where they are treated within the Nemours system.

“At Nemours, we’ve made a promise to do whatever it takes to help children grow up healthy and reach their full potential,” stated Kevin B. Churchwell, MD, chief executive officer of the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children and Nemours Senior Vice President. “Establishing Nemours Pediatric Partners at South Jersey Healthcare helps us achieve this promise by bringing neonatology and pediatric hospitalist services to children and families in their own community and making the duPont Hospital for Children’s advanced pediatric care resources available when needed.”

“Nemours and South Jersey Healthcare are perfect together,” said Chet Kaletkowski, SJH President and CEO. “Nemours brings wonderful clinical expertise and the backing of a nationally recognized pediatric hospital to our community, while SJH brings a state-of-the-art level IIIa neonatal unit. This is a win-win for our organizations, and the community.”

South Jersey Healthcare recently began construction on a Level IIIa Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Regional Medical Center (RMC) in Vineland. This $6 million, 14,800 square-foot expansion and renovation of the nursery will bring advanced care for premature, low birth-weight and critically ill infants to the region. Currently, the nursery at the RMC is classified at Level II, and can provide care for premature infants born at 32 weeks. With advancement to a Level IIIa NICU, SJH will be able to care for infants as young as 28 weeks.

Dr. Larry Herrera will serve as chief of pediatric hospitalists for Nemours Pediatric Partners at South Jersey Healthcare, overseeing a team of five pediatric hospitalists. Dr. Herrera is a board-certified pediatrician and most recently practiced as a Nemours pediatric hospitalist in Atlantic City, NJ. Nemours pediatric hospitalists will provide 24/7 consultation and evaluation services to trauma and emergency room physicians as well as community pediatricians to ensure a seamless transition upon hospital discharge.
