DALLAS, Texas — Balfour Beatty Construction received the Notice to Proceed on a new $59-million campus in Frisco, Texas. Known as Forest Park Medical Center, the project represents a significant milestone for the physician-owned complex, which has grown significantly since opening its first surgical specialty hospital in Dallas in 2009. Through this project, Forest Park is actively seeking to expand its growing brand of specialized healthcare.

Developed by the Neal Richards Group, these new facilities will help Forest Park deliver high-quality, experience-driven healthcare in a hospitality-style setting. Located on a 4.5-acre site within the master- planned Frisco Square mixed-use development, the project will be built to LEED Silver specifications and feature luxurious interiors, VIP patient rooms, and a vegetated roof on the first floor of the hospital.

In a unique approach to project delivery, the project includes design-build services for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection (MEP/FP) systems under Balfour Beatty’s construction services contract. Working alongside lead architect BOKA Powell, the project team’s innovative delivery methods will streamline delivery of the MEP systems by combining design and coordination processes into a condensed timeframe. As a result, the team will produce a fully coordinated design model in the same timeframe as it typically takes to deliver traditional design alone.

This contracting solution will eliminate several weeks of coordination from the project’s schedule, which not only means time and cost savings, but also helps avoid potential errors that can occur when teams translate design concept to reality.

“We’re thrilled to be part of this project with Forest Park and the Neal Richards Group,” said Robert Feille, senior project manager for Balfour Beatty Construction. “Their unique approach and fresh perspective is infused into every aspect of the project, which really strengthens every part of this team.”
The full scope of the Forest Park Medical Center includes a 130,000-square-foot hospital, a 90,000-square-foot medical office building with multi-tenant retail, restaurant, and medical office space, and a 600-space parking garage. Construction is expected to complete in Spring 2012.
