Work Begins on Neuroscience Center Project

IUHealthNeuroscienceCenter1Construction is underway on the new $100 million Indiana University Health Neuroscience Center on the IU Health Methodist Hospital campus in Indianapolis. F.A. Wilhelm Construction Co. of Indianapolis is building the complex, which includes an imaging center, ambulatory care center and research building. Two of the facilities are expected to open in early 2012.

Construction has begun on the new Indiana University Health Neuroscience Center south of Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital. F.A. Wilhelm Construction Company of Indianapolis will build the Neuroscience Center for Landmark Healthcare Facilities, a Milwaukee-based company hired by Indiana University Health to develop, own and manage the facility.

The IU Health Neuroscience Center will be built on the southeast corner of 16th and Missouri streets, extending east to the existing Family Medicine building and south nearly to 14th Street. 15th Street and Missouri will be realigned to accommodate the building.

Renderings of the complex’s five-story, 270,000 sq. ft. ambulatory care center show a modern glass and stone building with a sweeping roof line. The building will include an elevated pedestrian walkway spanning 16th Street connecting to the IU Health People Mover and IU Health Methodist Hospital. Cannon Design is the architect.

IU Health, Landmark, Cannon and Wilhelm announced the project’s startup on December 20, 2010. Wilhelm, the general contractor for the project, has installed a construction fence and is beginning to prepare the site, starting by demolishing the former Empire Auto building.
