WARREN, Mich. — St. John Providence Health System is investing more than $30 million as part of a large scale capital improvement initiative. The infusion of capital investment provides significant resources to improve the patient care experience. Included in the package are several projects:
* Providence Hospital in Southfield is making an investment of $5 million to expand and enhance the hospital’s emergency department. It includes a 4,055 square foot addition that will house 16 new acute care treatment areas, increasing the number of private treatment bays to 54. The addition will bring the total square footage of the department to nearly 30,000. Also, more than 17,300 square feet of the existing space will be renovated as part of the project.
* St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital’s Macomb Campus in Warren will invest $7.3 million to support the renovation and reconfiguration of inpatient services. The project adds 46 bed; 30 beds dedicated for observation patients and 16 medical surgical beds. In addition, the plan reconfigures several multi-patient rooms into semi-privates rooms to improve the patient experience.
* At Providence Park Hospital, $3 million will be invested to purchase a new open MRI, which will be the second open MRI in the system. The new equipment will provide improved convenience, access and timeliness for patients.
* The purchase of a mobile PET Scanner at a cost of $2.1 million (SJPHS currently leases a PET Scanner).
* A new $2 million outpatient facility in Harrison Township, which will include the outpatient physical rehabilitation services program being relocated from North Shores, lab services, physician offices and urgent care services. The new location at Metro Parkway and Crocker will open in April.The recently-opened Cracchiolo Inpatient Physical Rehabilitation Center at St. John Hospital and Medical Center at a cost of $3 million.
* Remaining dollars are being used to support new clinical initiatives, physician practices and equipment purchases.
