Petzoldt Named to Associate Principal of Cannon Design

ST LOUIS — Cannon Design, an internationally ranked architectural, engineering and planning firm, is pleased to announce that Natalie R. Petzoldt, AIA, LEED® AP, EDAC, has been appointed to the position of Associate Principal. 

Supporting Cannon Design’s architectural practice in healthcare, as well as academic medical center programs, Petzoldt has participated in every phase of project development—from programming through construction.  As leader of the St. Louis healthcare practice and principal healthcare planner, her focus is on master planning, academic medical centers and comprehensive oncology facilities. 

Currently, Petzoldt is serving as the healthcare planner on significant programs for the firm. The Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Phoenix, AZ will include inpatient, diagnostic/treatment, and outpatient facilities.  Additional project work includes University Hospitals, Seidman Cancer Center in Cleveland—a 375,000 sf free-standing hospital which will triple the space currently dedicated for cancer services, and master plans for the University of Michigan Health System and Penn State Hershey Medical Center.

Petzoldt was one of the two first participants selected for Cannon Design’s Healthcare Fellowship Program, a ground-breaking initiative aimed to “fast-track” the careers of emerging healthcare professionals through intense and committed mentoring. 

In addition, she was an honoree in both Building Design & Construction’s and the St. Louis Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 programs; and named a Herman Miller Scholar by the American Institute of Architects/Academy of Architects for Health.  A frequent participant at industry forums, Petzoldt was invited to speak on the topic of evidence-based design at this year’s Association of Community Cancer Centers National Meeting in Baltimore, MD.  Most recently her paper on the same topic, “Infusion of Design with Evidence,” was a featured in the Multidisciplinary Cancer Care Journal.  

Petzoldt graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from Kansas State University, where she also received a School Medal from the American Institute of Architects.  Natalie is currently serving as a professional mentor for Susanne Siepl-Coates architecture studio at Kansas State University which is focused on designing a center for autistic children.
