$42 Million Hospital Project Moves Forward

Cameron_Hospital_Rendering_ANGOLA, Ind. — Officials from Cameron Memorial Community Hospital announced Thursday the decision by the Board of Directors to proceed with the construction of a new hospital.

The project has been in the planning stages for several years. “It is now with pride and excitement that we move from planning to building the new hospital,” said Greg Burns, Cameron President and CEO. “Approval to proceed with this project is the result of the hard work, commitment, and enthusiasm of the entire Cameron Hospital team.”

Construction is slated to begin in April of 2011, with occupancy of the new hospital occurring in the fall of 2012. The new medical office building (which will be connected to the new hospital) will also be finished in the fall of 2012. Renovation of the existing portion of the hospital will then begin, with the entire project to be completed in the fall of 2013. The hospital will remain as the east anchor of downtown Angola. “Cameron Memorial Community Hospital is a vital anchor to our downtown and will now continue this position with their new building,” said Angola Mayor Dick Hickman. “How blessed we are to have this facility along with their wonderful physicians and staff in our city, helping with our downtown revitalization.”

This $42,000,000 project will create an expanded campus of 13+ acres, and include 110,470 square feet of newly constructed space and 15,930 square feet of renovated space for a total square footage of 126,400.

The new space will feature all private patient rooms, including: 18 private rooms for medical and surgical patients; 2 private rooms for special care patients; 3 labor, delivery and recovery rooms for childbirth, and 5 private, family-friendly rooms for maternity patients. In an effort to promote patient safety and staff efficiency, all rooms will be identical featuring the “same-handed” design. The hospital will also include the following features:

• 3 fully-equipped, large operating rooms
• 2 outpatient procedure rooms
• 12 private ambulatory surgery patient care rooms
• State-of-the-art radiology department, including a dedicated women’s center
• Expanded emergency department with separate ambulance and walk-in patient entrances
• Ground floor, convenient access to rehabilitation services
• Non-denominational chapel
• Large, accessible community education facilities

Cameron Hospital officials will be hosting public meetings regarding this project on Tuesday, January 13 and Thursday, January 18, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the hospital cafeteria. Community members are encouraged to attend and offer comment on the plans.
