Significant Construction Completed at Palos Community Hospital

Surgery-Bed Pavilion Next at Palos Community Hospital

CHICAGO —  Palos Community Hospital has completed the latest step in the implementation of its master plan by relocating an expanded central plant in anticipation of a major Surgery and Bed Pavilion project which is now under construction and designed by Matthei & Colin Associates.  The construction cost is anticipated to be $160 million.

Overall, the new 427,500 square-foot addition will be more efficient and more accessible with a new main entrance providing access to 192 new private inpatient rooms, new perioperative services, laboratory, pharmacy, and patient support functions.  New way-finding for the hospital and the entire campus will be a further result of the current construction.  New surgical facilities will include two cardiovascular operating rooms and a surgical hybrid interventional radiology room in the suite of fourteen operating rooms.  Outpatient procedure rooms have been positioned with the surgical suite to utilize patient prep and recovery functions.

“The selected master plan preserves the park-like setting of the Hospital in its presentation to the community and is the largest project yet undertaken by this community hospital,” said Leon H. Floerchinger, AIA, ACHA, partner at Matthei & Colin Associates, a healthcare architecture and planning firm, who has been closely working with the hospital since 1996.
