Kraus-Anderson Construction Company will begin construction in January 2011 on a new 400,000-square-foot hospital for Gundersen Lutheran Health System in La Crosse, Wis. The new hospital and renovation of the current hospital space is one of 2011’s largest healthcare construction projects in the region. Crews recently completed a new three-level, 600-car parking ramp.
Designed by Ellerbe Becket, Inc., an AECOM Company, the hospital is being constructed to meet LEED standards. The energy-efficient design will help the hospital achieve its goal of being 100-percent energy independent by 2014.
The project will be built in phases over the next four to eight years. When fully complete, the six-story hospital will include private rooms for all patients to enhance comfort for patients and families; new operating rooms and expanded pre- and post-op areas allowing for better patient privacy and service; improved medical, surgical and critical care units; centralized services for women and children, including a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; and a comprehensive Trauma & Emergency Center with adjoining imaging services.
