Fry Construction Selected for High-Profile Medical Imaging Project by Texas Tech University

CARROLLTON, Texas — Fry Construction, a leader in medical imaging design and construction, has broken ground on an innovative new facility in the medical imaging arena. The project is the first phase of a medical imaging center for scientific research and development and represents a significant achievement towards cutting edge technology in the West Texas Region. Texas Tech University is building the first research-dedicated Siemens 3T fMRI in the region. The new capability will allow advanced research in imaging with a focus on Neuroimaging related to Autism, Addiction, Brain Development, and a host of other applications.

Located at the Experimental Sciences Building on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, the MRI suite is a collaborative effort between Fry Construction, Inc., Texas Tech University, and Siemens Medical Solutions, Inc. Fry Construction’s in-house, healthcare architect worked directly with the staff and research team at Siemens and Texas Tech to implement a design that utilized the given area, met the strict fMRI specifications, and incorporated space for future imaging equipment.

The major challenge was to design and build the first 3T all-digital imaging center in the area. The new facility will feature the latest in MRI equipment utilizing the Siemens New Generation 3T fMRI technology.

“We are thrilled to be a part of such an innovative medical imaging project and are proud that Fry Construction continues to be selected for these types of specialized healthcare based projects,” stated Ben Fry, President of Fry Construction.

Taylor Eighmy, Vice President for Research at Texas Tech University, added, “We selected Siemens and Fry Construction based on their long-standing reputation in the imaging community and the positive past experiences in the medical construction field. With such a significant project, there is little room for error and we were confident that Fry Construction would meet our expectations.”

The Texas Tech project adds to Fry Construction’s growing portfolio of high-profile healthcare projects.

The Experimental Sciences Building at Texas Tech University is home to several multi-disciplinary research teams that span Engineering, Biological Sciences, Psychology, High Performance Computing, Human Development and Agricultural Sciences.

Michael Molina, Vice Chancellor of Facilities Planning & Construction, points out, “This unique project delivery method of combining Siemens and Fry as a collective solution is directly in line with our new vision of strategically positioning projects with the right talent and skill-set from the private sector. This successful teaming plan is critical to attaining the Texas Tech University System’s strategic research growth goals.”
