Doster Awarded Contract to Manage $45 Million New Patient Tower

Doster Construction Company, one of the nation’s largest general healthcare contractors, was selected by The University of South Alabama to manage the construction of the $45 million patient tower for its Children’s and Women’s Hospital. This is Doster’s fourth project for the University.

Adjacent to the existing hospital, the five-level, 200,000-square-foot New Patient Tower will connect to the main campus with a pedestrian bridge. The new facility will house patient rooms, eight operating rooms, two endoscopy rooms, support areas and a full-service cafeteria. A small parking garage, located at basement level, is also included in the scope of work.

The exterior of the building will be brick, curtain wall and metal panels. A cupola will adorn the top of the tower. Doster will complete the work in two phases: Phase I, which is estimated at 24 months, will include construction of the New Patient Tower, the connecting bridge and a full-service cafeteria. Phase II will include an interior renovation to the existing hospital, and should be completed within eight months. Doster is scheduled to start construction in December of 2010, with the New Patient Tower being operational in December of 2012.
