PATERSON, NJ — St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, which includes St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Paterson, NJ, will dedicate a new main lobby as part of its ongoing expansion project. The lobby will give patients and visitors easy access to medical center services. It features a designated Women’s and Children’s Lobby, a state-of-the-art 256-seat auditorium, and a tribute to the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth.
Once inside the new lobby, patients and families will find family-friendly waiting areas, the information desk and easy access to the medical center as well as the chapel, front patio, and main courtyard. Visitors will also find Au Bon Pain and the medical center’s gift shop. A computerized baby grand player piano has been donated to the Medical Center by Robert and Norma Marcalus.
SJRMC Lobby Waiting AreaWhen the hospital-wide expansion is completed in the next five years, the main entrance will be further expanded to allow access to the Medical Missions for Children Hyatt Place Hotel and a new parking garage that are going to be constructed next to the Medical Center. The current main entrance will become a physician’s lounge and board/conference room.
“We are excited to open to the public our first completed building project in our master facilities expansion,” says William A. McDonald, President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Joseph’s Healthcare System. “The advanced design of the lobby symbolizes the advanced care we offer at St. Joseph’s.”
McDonald adds, “As the region’s leading health care provider, St. Joseph’s Healthcare System is experiencing rapid growth, with record levels of more than 1.7 million outpatient procedures and visits, more than 200,000 patient days, and more than 148,000 Emergency Department visits last year.”
During the dedication ceremony on Wednesday, September 8, a 12-foot-high bronze sculpture representing the range of patient care provided at St. Joseph’s Healthcare System through the figures of a surgeon, a Sister of Charity, as well as younger and older patients, will be unveiled. Once the circular driveway is complete, the statue will be moved to its permanent position at the center of the main entry courtyard on Main Street.
The lobby was designed by Francis Cauffman Architects of Philadelphia, PA, and constructed by O.A. Peterson Construction Company, Inc., of Montclair, NJ. Project management was provided by James Little, Sterling Barnett Little, Inc., Arlington, Texas.
