Cannon Design Celebrates ‘Topping Out’ for Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center

Rendering-entrancePHOENIX, AZ — Cannon Design, an internationally recognized architectural, engineering and planning firm, is pleased to announce that construction on the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, in Phoenix, AZ, is underway.

Scheduled to open in 2011, the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center will bring an unprecedented level of cancer care to Arizona—uniting one of the country’s largest nonprofit hospital systems, Banner Health, with an institution internationally recognized for its cancer treatment and research, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Located on the Banner Gateway Medical Center campus, the 131,000 sf cancer center houses outpatient services that include radiation oncology, outpatient imaging, multi-specialty clinics, infusion therapy, and support services.  (Inpatient services will be provided in the existing Banner Gateway hospital facility.)

By offering a comprehensive array of advanced technologies and treatment alternatives in one location, the facility will maximize convenience, accessibility, and healing.  To achieve cohesion among the cancer services provided in multiple campus buildings, site placement and context figure prominently among design considerations, as does the full spectrum of cancer patient needs.

Cannon Design is an Ideas Based Practice, ranked among the leading international firms in planning and design for healthcare, research, education, corporate, sports and government clients.  At present, the firm employs a staff of over 1,000, delivering services in 17 offices throughout North America, as well as abroad in Shanghai, China, and Mumbai, India.
