Mimbres Memorial Hospital’s construction costs total more than $5 million for additions
DALLAS—Ascension Group Architects, an Arlington, Texas, firm known for designing healthcare projects nationwide, and Skiles Group, a Dallas construction firm, completed more than $5 million in additions to Mimbres Memorial Hospital recently. The hospital is in Deming, N.M.
Construction included a 16,000-square-foot addition for a new operating department and a new emergency department. Work on the operating department included adding two operating rooms to replace the existing rooms and support facilities. The emergency department included seven new examination rooms and two trauma rooms.
“We had unique opportunities with this addition, as it adjoined a 50-year-old hospital,” said Michael Smith, a project manager at Ascension. “The addition provided a modern design that complemented the existing building.
“It was a pleasure working on this addition,” Smith said. “The hospital staff was exceptional to work with, as they always kept their patients’ needs and care first.”
The project began in August 2009.
“The location and desert climate provided us some unique construction challenges, but we were able to improve upon the hospital’s already excellent facilities and give something special back to the Deming community,” said Clay K. Harrison, president of Skiles.
