ACIntiPHILADELPHIA — EwingCole, one of the nation’s leading architecture, engineering and interior design firms, is pleased to announce that the AtlantiCare Cancer Care Institute has been honored by the International Interior Design Association of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.  The 2010 Best Healthcare Design Award was bestowed at a ceremony June 23rd.

“This is a great honor and a testimony to the visionary leadership of our client at AtlantiCare,” said Andy Jarvis, EwingCole’s Healthcare Practice Leader, “as well as the work of our interior design and architecture teams.”

Certified LEED Gold, the project in Egg Harbor Township, NJ was lauded for its use of natural light, environmentally friendly products and recycled building materials. The interior design emphasized AtlantiCare’s coastal location through the use of imagery inspired by the seashore: rippled sand, clouds and sky, dune grass, stones and pebbles, blues and greens, and rough textured wood.  Designers worked with local artists to incorporate original artwork into the building.

“Our goal was to orchestrate a series of uplifting and therapeutic experiences,” said Colleen Boland, EwingCole project interior designer, “to help relieve the stress and emotional assault of cancer on patients and their loved ones.  In addition, the interiors were designed to improve the comfort of caregivers, sustaining their compassion and energy as they perform some of the most intellectually and emotionally demanding jobs in our society.”

EwingCole has special expertise in the design of cancer care centers, and has completed projects at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Fox Chase Cancer Center, City of Hope Medical Center, Loma Linda University Medical Center, North Shore – LIJ Health System, State University of New York – Upstate, among others.

In practice for 49 years, EwingCole is an architecture, engineering, interior design, historic preservation and planning firm of more than 350 professionals. As an integrated practice, the firm believes that design of the built environment can enhance our clients’ ability to achieve long-term success.  Based in Philadelphia, the firm also has offices in Washington, DC and Irvine, CA.
