LOS ANGELES — RTKL Associates Inc., a leading international architecture and planning firm, has hired Stephen Stokes as a principal in the firm’s healthcare sector.  Based in RTKL’s Los Angeles office, Stokes will serve as the firm’s Asia Healthcare Practice Leader. His expertise will also enhance the delivery of planning and design services to RTKL’s healthcare clients in California and the western states market.

“RTKL’s West Coast healthcare practice is experiencing significant growth, plus our Los Angeles team is leading the design of the Shanghai Changzheng Pudong Hospital, the largest new hospital built in one phase in China,” said Brad Barker, AIA, executive vice president of RTKL and leader of the firm’s Healthcare Group.  “Steve’s leadership skills will leverage the success we’re having in China and will support our growing practice on the West Coast.  We’re pleased he has joined us to push these initiatives forward.”

With more than 20 years of intense healthcare architecture experience, Stokes is acknowledged as a leader in his field.  Not only has he master planned, created, and implemented architectural designs for many large healthcare systems, including Banner Health and Catholic Healthcare West, he has also published articles on his work and served as a juror for Healthcare Design’s annual architectural showcase.

Stokes joins RTKL from the San Diego office of NTD Architecture, where he served as a principal.  He holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Iowa State University.  Stokes is a member of the Hospital Association of Southern California and the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME).
