    LifePoint Hospitals Gears Up to Purchase Clark Regional Medical Center

    LifePoint Hospitals, Inc. said that it has entered into an agreement with the Board of Directors of Clark Regional Medical Center (CRMC) whereby 100-bed Clark Regional Medical Center, located in Winchester, Kentucky, would become part of LifePoint Hospitals.

    In a release, the Company noted that the hospital is fully accredited by the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program. The transaction is expected to close April 30, subject to customary closing conditions. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.


    Upon closing of the transaction, LifePoint said that it will acquire ownership of CRMC operations and equipment and commit to invest approximately $60 million to build and equip a new, 132,000-square-foot hospital to replace the current hospital facility. The new hospital is expected to open in approximately 18 to 24 months after construction begins.

    In announcing the transaction, William F. Carpenter III, LifePoint’s president and chief executive officer, said, “We are excited about the prospect of working with Clark Regional and the Winchester community to build a new healthcare facility to serve the needs of residents. Clark Regional has physicians and staff who are passionately committed to their community.
