Central Baptist Health to Expand Nicholasville Road Campus
LEXINGTON, Ky. — April 15 — Central Baptist Hospital announced plans today to expand its Nicholasville Road hospital campus. The hospital has completed a master facility planning process, which included input from its medical staff as well as community leaders. It was concluded that regeneration of the Nicholasville Road campus will provide the most immediate solutions for CBH’s growing patient population and will better meet the needs of physicians who practice at the hospital.
This expansion plan, which involves an investment of $200 million, includes a seven-story, 337,903 square-foot facility which will house:
* A state-of-the-art cancer center including radiation therapy, a patient-centered chemotherapy/ infusion center, an expanded multidisciplinary oncology clinic, and CyberKnife,
* 40 ICU beds and inpatient imaging services,
* A women’s center occupying three floors, including labor and delivery, perinatology, antepartum, surgery suites, nursery, NICU and gynecology beds,
* 44 private medical/surgical beds, and
* One floor mechanical. (additional mechanical in basement)
Also included is a five-floor parking structure with two additional floors of medical office space. (273,927 sq.ft. and 400 cars). A new kitchen and cafeteria will be constructed between the 1720 and 1740 building. Construction will begin in late summer 2010 and is expected to be completed within 24 to 30 months.
In addition to providing for expansion of key services, the regeneration project will provide all private patient rooms, address current traffic flow issues and meet an increased need for parking. The new cancer center and the new women’s center will each have customer-friendly exterior access entrances.
In 2006, Central Baptist purchased 129 acres in the Hamburg area and considered moving the entire campus within five years. Due to the current economic environment and the uncertainties of healthcare reform, it appears that a more realistic timeframe for a possible second campus may be within 10 to 15 years. Regeneration of the Nicholasville Road campus was found to be more feasible in order to provide the best solution to the hospital’s current needs as well as those in its more immediate future. The Hamburg property continues to be a viable part of the hospital’s future plans.
