Skiles Group gets New Mexico Hospital Contract

DALLAS, Texas — Dallas-based Skiles Group received the general construction contract for additions to Mimbres Memorial Hospital in Deming, N.M. Construction costs are about $5.3 million.

Construction is under way and includes a 16,000-square-foot addition for a new operating department and a new emergency department for the southwest New Mexico hospital. Plans call for the operating department to include two operating rooms to replace the existing rooms and support facilities. The emergency department will include seven new examination rooms and two trauma rooms and will replace the existing rooms.

Construction is scheduled for completion in June 2010. Community Health Systems owns Mimbres Memorial.

“This is one of two out-of-state hospital projects we are doing for CHS and the other is a renovation in Wyoming,” said Clay Harrison, president of Skiles. “We also recently completed a renovation of Abilene Regional Medical Center in Abilene, Texas, and a renovation of College Station Medical Center in College Station, Texas, for the same client.”

Arlington, Texas-based Ascension Group Architects designed the project.

“The department replacements are greatly needed to meet the hospital’s patient load and the surrounding community’s growing health needs,” said Michael Smith, an associate at Ascension.
