Burlington, MA — Erland Construction announced that Richard Carey has joined the firm as Director of Healthcare Planning and Services. He brings more than 25 years experience as a seasoned executive with experience planning and leading significant capital and operational improvements in healthcare.

For the last 16 years Richard has worked in facilities planning and construction for several leading healthcare institutions, including Baystate Health System in Springfield, Massachusetts and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

Richard’s perspective is oriented to the needs of the healthcare facility’s Owner – with a focus on supporting the goals of achieving uninterrupted operations, providing reliable budgets, and minimizing oversight time by the Owner while top quality construction is performed. He has the unique ability to understand the time and budgetary pressures that Owner’s are constantly faced with and can help manage the entire healthcare construction project from identifying the need through to executing a solution.

Richard collaborates with client user groups and the architect to create programming that is grounded in overall project costs, which may include real estate, equipment, maintenance, and personnel, as well as construction costs. Having developed and implemented ICRA and ILSM programs previously, Richard has the understanding and experience to work with the hospital’s safety personnel during preconstruction to review programs, phasing, and cost prior to implementation. His expertise will help Erland’s growing Healthcare Group become the trusted contractor of choice for many of the region’s premier hospitals.
