Dec. 10 — HKS Architects has received the Construction Owners Association of America’s project leadership gold award for its work on Florida Hospital East Orlando.

The Florida Hospital East Orlando project consisted of a major expansion to the hospital almost doubling the size of the facility and adding 80 additional beds.

The hospital was originally licensed for 144 beds. The five-story project also included renovations and expansions for various departments, plus a new public concourse and a chapel and healing garden. The contractor on the project was Robins & Morton Group.

The award program recognizes owners whose design/build team demonstrates exceptional leadership and project management skills.

Founded in 1939, the firm with an office in Orlando completed construction projects totaling more than $36 billion in more than 650 cities located in 45 states, the District of Columbia, and 36 foreign countries
