Leopardo Completes 100,000 SF Renovation of Rush University Medical Atrium Building
CHICAGO, Ill. — Leopardo Companies, Inc. has completed the 100,000-square-foot renovation of the Rush University Medical Center Atrium Building in Chicago, Illinois. Part of Rush University’s long-term plan to provide state-of-the-art medical facilities for doctors and patients the project included complete renovation of multiple floors and infrastructure improvements to the entire building. Serving as general contractor, Leopardo worked in collaboration with architect Perkins + Will and Jacobs Project Management.
The multiphase renovation enabled hospital operations to continue throughout the project. Work was completed in clean and sterile corridors while operating rooms remained in operation. The project included:
- Renovation of 67 patient rooms, the main nurses’ station, multiple exam rooms, medicine and clean rooms on several floors.
- LEED certification of the post-partum/ante-partum patient floor.
- Renovation and reconfiguration of the operating room suite, including construction of a new cystoscopy operating room and support space.
- Mechanical, electrical and plumbing upgrades that included a new infant protection system, security system and CAT 6 upgrades.
- Infrastructure upgrades such as replacement of two substations, a new mechanical shaft and fiber/copper cabling.
