New York, N.Y. — The New York office of Perkins Eastman joined White Plains Hospital on Oct. 23 in celebrating the start of construction for Phase Two of its capital transformation campaign. Phase Two of the $108-million capital campaign includes 42,000 square feet of clinical space and 22,000 square feet of renovations, in addition to other upgrades, designed by Perkins Eastman to enhance the patient experience and fully situate the hospital as a modern facility for the surrounding communities. Phase Two is expected to be complete in early 2015.
“Perkins Eastman is honored to work so closely with the exceptional leadership and staff of White Plains Hospital and the surrounding communities on the exciting enhancements to its campus,” says Frank Gunther AIA, Perkins Eastman’s principal-in-charge of the project. He continues, “Through its transformed facilities and continued commitment to its patients and talented staff, White Plains Hospital will help meet the region’s demand for critical health services well into the future and ensure sustainability for the hospital.”
Phase Two includes:
- New six-story patient care building to house two medical/surgical floors and 24 private patient rooms.
- New operating room suite comprised of a total of five new operating rooms equipped to accommodate minimally invasive surgical techniques.
- Expanded outpatient radiology center to comprise 5,000 square feet of clinical space and comfortable waiting rooms to ensure privacy for patients and families.
- New covered front entrance and lobby to improve traffic flow and provide greater comfort and convenience during arrivals and departures.
The new patient care building, named the West Wing, was designed to signal White Plains Hospital’s commitment to an enhanced visitor experience. The sleek exterior suggests the high-technology environment enclosed within, while it also serves as a literal window into the new care services provided for by the addition. The entirely new entrance to the hospital features a lobby that opens up to double the height in key locations, creating an airy, light-filled focal point and area of respite for patients, their families and hospital staff and enhancing connectivity while concierge services will assist upon arrival, underscoring the quality of the patient experience. A covered porte-cochere, boutique gift shop, food venue, enclosed connection to the parking garage and other amenities help transform the hospital campus into a newly modern, inviting environment focused on health and wellness.
Phase Two is kicking off at the completion of Phase One, which includes increased security and capacity of vital power sources at the hospital, a new surgical services locker room and a new single-story outpatient radiology building. The work completed through this capital campaign addresses the goals of a strategic plan and master plan completed by White Plains Hospital in 2010, also performed by Perkins Eastman.
