FKP Architects celebrated with Children’s Hospital Colorado as ground broke on its new full-service South Campus hospital. Saunders Construction serves as the general contractor for the project.
Located in Highlands Ranch, Colo. this satellite hospital campus will include urgent care, ambulatory care and outpatient and inpatient beds. The project’s first phase, scheduled to open in late 2013, will encompass more than 175,000-square-feet with future capacity to expand as community needs grow. Children’s Hospital Colorado expects to host nearly 80,000 patient visits at the South Campus during its first year.
“The South Campus of Children’s Hospital Colorado was designed to inspire and take full advantage of its beautiful natural surroundings,” commented Michael Shirley, AIA, LEED AP, senior project designer and principal at FKP Architects. “The campus is organized and sited to maximize views of the nearby mountains, distant lakes and captivating site topography. Nature will further be incorporated into the healing experience through serene gardens and scenic respite areas on the grounds. The campus is a perfect complement to the beauty and sensibilities of the Highlands Ranch community.”
